Amelanchier canadensis var. obovalis ‘Jennybelle’ – Coastal Juneberry – 2-Quart

$13.00

Sometimes accorded full species status as A. obovalis, but plants are so similar to Swamp Juneberry (A. canadensis) they are now generally thought by botanists to be a variety of that species. Coastal Juneberry differs in being more compact and more tolerant of drier soils – not surprising since the species typically grows in sandy soils along the coast or in the New Jersey Pine Barrens. Much like Running Juneberry, Coastal Juneberry spreads by stolons to form a thicket over time. ‘Jennybelle’ was selected by Jack Rice of North Carolina for its superior fruit – he named the selection after his daughter Jennifer. We are uncertain of the ultimate height of ‘Jennybelle’ – Coastal Juneberry grows to 3-5’, but ‘Jennybelle’ is often described as growing to 3x that height.
