Acer rubrum ‘Autumn Flame’ – Red Maple

Introduced in 1964 by A. McGill & Sons nursery, Fairview, Oregon this variety is a little less cold hardy than other selections we offer. Autumn Flame® is a male selection that is noted for (1) abundant leaves that are smaller in size than those of the species, (2) Fall color that develops about two weeks prior to Fall color on the species and (3) excellent scarlet Fall color. The advantage of a male variety is that you won’t need to weed hundreds of seedlings out of your garden beds in Summer after thousands of seeds are released in Spring.
