Glandularia canadensis ‘Perfecta’ – Rose Vervain – 1-Quart

$5.00

Rose Vervain has a mostly southern distribution (Missouri and Kansas south to Texas and Louisiana). We’ve tried to grow it a few times but it’s never survived our winters and we’ve deemed it insufficiently cold hardy to grow in our area. However, populations do occur quite far north of its primary distribution at scattered locations in Wisconsin, Michigan and Pennsylvania. And so we keep trying. The variety ‘Perfection’ is supposed to be cold hardy to zone 5, and we’re hoping it’s derived from a more northerly, cold hardy population. Since the species grows best in gritty, well-drained soils it probably needs appropriate siting to survive the winter as well – it’s not just a cold hardiness issue, but a winter wet issue – too much wetness during an extended winter causes death.
