Iris ×louisiana ‘Black Gamecock’ – Louisiana Iris – 3-Quart

$13.00

Despite their southern origins, many Louisiana iris varieties are fully cold-hardy in our area, though they can benefit from a layer of mulch for the winter in colder areas. They are horticultural creations using five species of southern iris in the series Hexagonae (actually, some hybridization among the species has always occurred in the Louisiana area – breeders have developed and enhanced these wild-occurring hybrids). While we offer them in our wetland plant area they are actually adaptable to general garden conditions, though they cannot be allowed to dry out during hot, dry stretches of weather. They’re heavy feeders and prefer an acid-loving plant fertilizer like Hollytone.
