Passiflora incarnata – Purple Passionflower, Maypop – 3-Gallon

$34.00

A fast-growing, tendril-climbing vine that reaches the northern limit of its natural distribution in southern Ohio. In our area it dies to the ground each year and must be placed in a protected spot or heavily mulched to survive the winter.  Features three-lobed, dark green leaves and showy, 2.5″ diameter, fragrant, fringed flowers. Fleshy, egg-shaped, edible fruits called maypops appear in summer and mature to a yellowish color in fall. Ripened maypops can be eaten fresh off the vine or made into jelly. Plants are self-fertile but make sure you have carpenter bees or honey bees visiting the flowers – else you may need to hand pollinate.
