Tridens flavus – Purpletop – 1-Quart

$6.00

Quite common in old fields and along roadsides in both our area and throughout a good portion of the eastern United States. It’s just not quite showy enough to have made it into mainstream horticulture and even many native plant nurseries don’t offer this grass. We’ve always enjoyed the color the graceful, drooping inflorescences bring to the fields on the outskirt of the nursery and they make delicate additions to cut flower displays. Foliage takes on some bronze-purple color in the fall and the inflorescences, long since faded from purple to a tawny color, stand up well to winter snows. Seeds are an important food for birds in winter.
