Asclepias hirtella – Tall Green Milkweed – 1-Quart

$6.00

This milkweed is sort of a larger version of the finely-textured Whorled Milkweed (A. verticillata). The flowers are a little more colorful however, with purplish highlights on a greenish-white base. More significantly they are produced abundantly along the stems and the stems are taller. Thus the species is considerably more floriferous than Whorled Milkweed. This is a mid-western species, occurring from Michigan to Minnesota south to Louisiana and Alabama, with the heart of it’s distribution extending from Indiana and Illinois to Missouri and eastern Kansas. Like all milkweeds a great nectar plant for pollinators and a host plant for the Monarch Butterfly.
