Schizachyrium scoparium Free Spirit® Comet® – Little Bluestem – 1.25-Quart

$8.00

From Hortech:

Comet® little bluestem is uniquely skinny and upright- and resistant to wind and rain. But this isn’t all; it is beautifully sky-blue during the spring and summer months, then during the bloom season begins to color up from the base with hues of ruby-red, purple, blue and green. And, it is the lighter sky-blue top part of the plant that looks like the tail of a comet. with its tight growth habit, Comet® is suited to using as a dwarf hedge as well as an architecturally interesting accent and companion plant.

Description

Grass family (Poaceae)

Little Bluestem is one of the most characteristic grasses of Tallgrass Prairies and common in old fields in theCatskills. Clump-forming and fine-textured with delicate inflorescences that become silvery and noticeably attractive when side-lit or back-lit by the Autumn or early Winter sun.  You can help seed-eating birds that overwinter in our area by waiting to trim grasses back to the ground until early to mid spring.
