Amelanchier × ‘Success’- Juneberry – 1.25-Quart

$8.00

Thought to be a hybrid between Saskatoon Juneberry (Amelanchier alnifolia) and Running or Dwarf Juneberry (A. spicata). ‘Success’ was the first named Juneberry cultivar, apparently originating in Pennsylvania in the mid 19th century.  It was popularized by an H.E. Van Deman in Kansas later in the century, and has continued to be grown here and there since then. Though it can’t compete with most of the newer Saskatoon varieties grown commercially in Canada, it’s a good performer in our region, probably because of its origin nearby in Pennsylvania. The berries are good size, more than 3/8’s inch in diameter or about 60 berries in a cup. The plants can grow to 6 feet tall and 4 feet wide and will yield a good crop averaging 15 pounds of berries per plant.
