Thalictrum thalictroides – Rue-anemone – 1-Pint

Rue-anemone is a fairly common woodland perennial in our area. It’s not unusual to find it growing on shady roadsides. In the wild, Rue-anemone seems to prefer somewhat limey (calcareous) or circumneutral soils and well-drained conditions. Grow it on a slope and give it a dusting of lime every year if you have acidic soils.

The new name for this plant is Thalictrum thalictroides, but it still mostly goes by the old name Anemonella in the horticultural trade.  From Flora of the Southeast: “Ro & McPheron (1997) corroborated via molecular phylogeny that Anemonella should be included in Thalictrum; in fact, T. thalictroides appears to form a “basal” subclade in Thalictrum with T. clavatum (and presumably T. mirabile).” That is, it’s actually an ancestor of most of the taller apetalous species of meadow-rue.
