Carya illinoinensis – Northern Pecan – 1.7-Gallon Tree Pot

$29.00

Believe it or not, it is possible to grow Pecans in the Hudson Valley and lower elevations of the Catskills. Our trees are derived from more northerly portions of the species range, in Illinois, and their nuts mature relatively quickly, so that even in our short growing season they usually produce well-filled nuts. If the summer is cool they may not do so – even so the tree is perfectly hardy. Pecans are largely self-sterile so you’ll need to plant at least two for nut production. The nuts themselves will be a little smaller than you can buy in the store – the price to be paid for the extra cold-hardiness needed to grow the species in our area.
