Heterotheca villosa – Golden Aster – 1-Quart

$6.00

Not very commonly available in mainstream horticulture, this plant can even be hard to find at native plant nurseries. Perhaps it’s because the plant can get a little too floppy for the well-manicured perennial border. The plant shines though in meadows and informal plantings and deserves to be more widely used. Sure it blooms at the same time as goldenrods, so its bright yellow color isn’t desperately needed, but the relatively large flowers are much showier than those of goldenrod and the plant maintains a presence no matter how much goldenrod surrounds it. Reduce floppiness by growing on lean, dryish soils. Formerly in the genus Chrysopsis.
