Hibiscus moscheutos – Rose Mallow – 1.25 quart

Many gardeners are familiar with tropical Hibiscus that are often grown as house plants or Rose-of-Sharon, a non-native woody type of Hibiscus. But most are not aware that there is a species indigenous to wetlands throughout eastern North America – actually there are a number of different species – Rose Mallow is the most common and widespread of the group. While it grows in wetlands in the wild it does not require a bog garden and will thrive in the rich soil typical of most perennial borders where it is quite long-lived. The huge flowers are attractive to butterflies, especially Tiger Swallowtails. Our plants are grown from seed collected along the Hudson River.
