Liatris scariosa var. novae-angliae – New England Blazing Star – 1-Quart

$6.00

The only Blazing Star native to the northeast – in New York it grows mostly on Long Island but also in Dutchess County, where we collected the seeds for the plants we are offering. One of the button-flowered Blazing Stars that are irresistible to Monarch Butterflies – if you plant it they will come. Seed-eating birds such as Goldfinches love Blazing Star seeds so don’t cut the spent flower stalks until spring.  We find this species growing on rather poor, dry, sandy soils where it typically stays small in size – around 12-24”. Grown on richer soils it will be taller but may also flop a bit.
