Liquidambar styraciflua ‘Oconee’ – Sweetgum – 1-Gallon

$39.00

Sweetgum is grown mostly for its spectacular fall foliage but it’s normally a large tree that grows 60-100’ tall and requires considerable space in the landscape. For gardeners who desire the fall foliage display but are space-challenged we offer ‘Oconee’ – a compact, multi-stemmed form with dark green leaves, which turn a beautiful burgundy in the fall. It ultimately grows to less than a quarter the height of the species and does so very slowly. The species has a mostly coastal and southern distribution – it’s considered marginally hardy in zone 5 – try it if you live in a local valley – it’s a bit of a risk throughout the rest of our area.
