Aesculus glabra – Ohio Buckeye

$24.00$69.00

A medium-sized tree from midwestern stream valleys, Ohio Buckeye relishes a rich, moist soil – the foliage will scorch late in summer if you attempt to grow this species in a hot, dry environment. Early to leaf out in spring, the 5-part, palmately compound leaves impart a tropical feel to the landscape. The greenish-yellow flowers are interesting and fairly showy, and also attract hummingbirds. The purplish brown nuts or buckeyes that follow are produced in clusters of two or three and are ornamental from late summer into fall.
