Malus ‘Jonagold’ – Apple – 7-Gallon

$79.00

A cross between ‘Jonathan’ – a local heirloom apple from Woodstock – and ‘Golden Delicious’. The cross was performed in 1953 at the New York State Agricultural Experiment Station at Cornell – ‘Jonagold’ was released in 1968. It’s one of the best tasting apples around (a personal note – if I can’t find an ‘Esopus Spitzenberg’ I’m looking for ‘Jonagolds’ – Francis). It’s loaded with both sweetness and tartness – the combination is a superb, rich and full flavor. ‘Jonagold’ is a large apple – a reflection of its triploid genetics – because it’s triploid though it doesn’t produce viable pollen and cannot be used to pollenize other apple varieties.
