Malus ‘Macoun’- Heirloom Apple – 7-Gallon

This offspring of ‘McIntosh’ is considered by many to be the finest eating apple in the Northeast, perhaps the world – what more needs to be said? It was introduced in 1923 by the New York State Agricultural Experiment Station at Geneva and named after Canadian fruit grower W.T. Macoun. Begins ripening about a month after McIntosh, in mid- to late-September in our area. ‘Macoun’ is not particularly disease-resistant so it’s not the easiest apple to grow organically. It’s superior flavor and quality makes it worth the extra attention needed to grow it in your backyard.
