Mitchella repens – Partridgeberry – 1-Pint

Price range: $7.00 through $14.00

A diminutive evergreen groundcover for the woodland garden. Paired white flowers are lightly scented and give rise to scarlet berries that last from summer into the following spring. These berries are occasionally eaten by birds (apparently partridges seem to find them particularly tasty!). Try to site on a woodland slope – they are easily smothered by a buildup of tree leaves. Or rake, chop and return the leaves as a thin layer of mulch.

Description

Madder family (Rubiaceae)

We are growing this species from locally collected seeds. We get great germination but when we move the seedlings to individual pots they pout for a bit. Thus our production of the plant is sporadic and demand often exceeds supply. I beleive we have a good crop coming along for 2024.
