Nymphaea ‘Amandine’ – Medium ISG Water Lily

Lily breeders have recently been successful in creating a range of purple-colored hardy lilies by hybridizing hardy lilies with purple tropical water lilies. They seem to be just as cold hardy as the hardy lilies. ‘Amandine’ is from Sebastien Berthier of France. It’s similar to the famous variety ‘Siam Purple II’ but supposedly more floriferous. We’ve been growing ‘Siam Purple II’ for a number of years and have indeed been disappointed in its flower production. Hopefully ‘Amandine’ will be better. It’s a first year lily for us Summer of ’23. We’ll see how it survives the winter – if it comes through we’ll have divisions available Summer of ’24.
