Penstemon hirsutus – Hairy Beardtongue – 1-Quart

$6.00

Don’t let the disconcerting name of this wildflower dissuade you from including it in your flower border or meadow. It’s easy to grow and the bicolor flowers are quite showy. Indeed, of the three species of Beardtongues native to Ulster County this one is the most colorful. Like all Beardtongues, it’s attractive to hummingbirds, butterflies and bumblebees. Hairy Beardtongue used to be much more common in old fields in our area. With the succession of many old fields to forest it is not common anymore – if you have some growing on your property please let us know – we’d be interested in collecting seeds!
