Podophyllum peltatum – Mayapple

$11.00$15.00

A rapidly spreading groundcover for the large-scale woodland garden. The creamy white, nodding flowers tend to be hidden beneath the large, deeply-lobed leaves. All portions of the plant are poisonous except for the ripe yellow fruit which is edible, but not particularly tasty and best left to Box Turtles, which relish them. Prefers rich woodland soil and may go dormant if planted in a dry, sunny spot. Native to our area, though we tend to see it more in Greene County, the Western Catskills and the Hudson Valley than in the immediate area around the nursery. Companions: Solomon’s Seal, Baneberry, Black Cohosh, Tassel Rue, Ferns, Virginia Bluebells.
