Prunus ‘Black Ice’ – Hybrid Plum – 5-Gallon

An unusual hybrid, Black Ice® is a cross between the North American native Sand Cherry (P. besseyi) and Japanese Plums. Bred by Prof. Brian Smith of University of Wisconsin at River Falls who spent years crossing cherry plums with Japanese dessert plums. Black Ice®  produces large, 2″ round, early-ripening, dessert-quality blue-black fruits with very sweet, juicy, reddish-purple semi-freestone flesh. Black Ice® is a precocious and productive tree with a naturally compact growth habit. Black Ice® Plum MUST be cross-pollinated with ‘Toka’, ‘La Crescent’ or Wild Plum in order to produce fruit.
