Prunus ‘Toka’ – Japanese-American Hybrid Plum – 7-Gallon

A hybrid between our native Wild Plum (P. americana) and the Japanese Plum (P. salicina). Despite being a hybrid ‘Toka’ flowers prolifically and is considered a great pollenizer for other hybrids or for Wild or Japanese Plums. The skin is reddish bronze, with richly flavored, spicy sweet, apricot-colored flesh. ‘Toka’ is extremely cold hardy having been bred in South Dakota in the early 1900s in the desire to have a Japanese type plum that could withstand the bitterly cold winters of the northern plains. Clingstone fruit. Ripens in late Summer.
