Amelanchier canadensis – Swamp or Shadblow Juneberry

$39.00$125.00

A rare species in our region, known only from swampy areas in the Shawangunks, but adaptable to general landscape conditions. Like all Serviceberries, this small tree / large shrub has multi-season interest. Informal sprays of white flowers in spring are followed by small, dark purple, tasty sweet berries in summer – enjoy them or leave them for the birds. In the fall, foliage changes to yellows, oranges and, occasionally, a bright red.

We’ve been having trouble in recent years with the A. canadensis we’ve been getting from our main source being misidentified. We’ll see what ’25 brings – hopefully all straightened out – we’re pretty confident the smaller plants we have are A. canadensis, but sometimes it’s difficult to know for sure until they flower.
