Pycnanthemum verticillatum var. verticillatum – Whorled Mountain Mint – 1-Pint

This species has two variants – a mostly midwestern one with downy foliage that we’ve long sold and is commonly available in the horticultural trade, and this one, a local native with glabrous foliage. Herbarium records indicate the plant grows in Ulster County, but we’ve never been able to locate it – the plants we offer are grown from seeds collected in New Jersey. There are few better nectar plants for butterflies and beneficial insects than the Mountain Mints, and just like its congeners this plant can be used in a salad or to make a refreshing mint tea.
