Viola lanceolata – Lanceleaf Violet – 1-Pint

$6.00

This attractive violet with distinctive foliage demands a consistently moist sandy, gritty, peaty soil without much competition from more vigorous plants. It inhabits bogs, gravelly areas along streams, ponds and lakes, and another name is Bog White Violet. It’s most common along the Atlantic coast, near the Great Lakes and throughout New England, eastern New York, Pennsylvania and New Jersey, including right here in Ulster County. Throughout this wide range it’s never common because its habitat is rare. It would make a great companion for pitcher plants (Sarracenia), spreading around them by stolons into small colonies – check it out in the Sarracenia planting by our pond.
