Quercus montana – Chestnut Oak – 3-Gallon

$69.00

Dry, rocky ridges of the Catskills are home for this tough species of Oak. The leaves of Chestnut Oak are neatly scalloped, resembling those of the Chestnut (Castanea dentata), hence the common name. The bark on older trees is heavily furrowed and quite easy to recognize. Fall foliage color varies from old gold to deep maroon. The acorn is large and sweet – a valuable food for turkeys and other wildlife.  Like all oaks, it’s the number 1 tree for caterpillars, and caterpillars are the number 1 food for songbirds. Plant an oak to help feed our feathered friends.
