Sarracenia ×catesbaei – Catesby’s Pitcher Plant

This naturally occuring hybrid of Yellow Pitcher Plant (Sarracenia flava) and Purple Pitcher Plant (S. purpurea) is found in the coastal plain region from Virginia to South Carolina. The top of the green pitcher is greenish brown with distinct burgundy brown veins. The hood is erect and outstretched. The pitchers become crimson in color as they age. Despite its southern provenance, this pitcher plant is fully cold-hardy in our area.
