Silphium wasiotense – Appalachian Rosinweed – 5-Pint

Another Rosinweed restricted in distribution to the Cumberland Plateau of Kentucky and Tennessee, but not quite the horticultural star in North America that Mohr’s Rosinweed has become. It’s a similar plant though, occurring in dryish meadows, prairies, open woods and along woodland edges. It blooms in mid summer through fall with medium to large yellow-gold flowers. The image shows the plant growing in a Beth Chatto border in England. This rosinweed may not be a star in North American gardens, but if you’ve made it to a Beth Chatto garden you have to have something going for you. Give it a try!
