Sorghastrum nutans – Indian Grass – 0.5-Pint

$5.00

One of the most beautiful and characteristic grasses of Tallgrass Prairies. Big Bluestem is the only grass more prevalent in this biome than Indian Grass. A clump former with foliage ranging in color from green to blue-green (for the cultivars ‘Sioux Blue’ and ‘Indian Steel’). Autumn color ranges from yellow to bright orange. The flower panicles are particularly showy – copper-colored with bright yellow pollen sacs. They become light chestnut brown through the winter and can be used effectively in dried flower arrangements. While thought of primarily as a Prairie species, Indian Grass is also native to about 1/2 the counties in New York, including right here in Ulster County.
