Carex appalachica – Appalachian Sedge

$4.00$15.00

This native of dry upland woods of eastern North America has very fine, hairlike foliage in a neat, fountaining clump. Not as well known as Pennsylvania Sedge but also useful as a grass-like alternative in dry shade areas such as under Maple trees. Appalachian sedge tends to grow longer than Pennsylvania sedge and flop – sort of a Beatles mop-top look. It’s also a clumper not a runner like Pennsylvania Sedge, so it won’t quite provide a lawn-like effect unless planted quite densely. Instead use it to mix with wildflowers in a dry shade garden.
