Symphoricarpos ×doorenbosii Magical® Avalanche – Snowberry

This member of the honeysuckle family is a tough, undemanding shrub with large, snow white fruits that develop from tiny, bell-shaped pink flowers. Despite their small size the flowers are attractive to native insects. The fruits develop in late summer and often remain on the plant into early winter. Birds don’t consider them a favorite but eventually eat them. The fruits are inedible for people. The foliage is an attractive blue-gray-green color. Over time Snowberry can become unkempt – a fairly hard pruning will improve form and also result in heavier flowering and fruiting. Mature plants will start spreading by rhizomes and form a thicket over time.
