Trillium sulcatum – Southern Red Trillium – 2-Quart

$13.00

Very similar to one of our local species, Purple Trillium (T. erectum) but with a more southern distribution (Virginia and West Virginia south to Alabama and Georgia, with a stronghold on the Cumberland Plateau of Tennesee and Kentucky). Its flower tends to stand tall above robust foliage and face outward – there’s rally no confusing the two species when you see them in flower. Also, the petals of this species are considerably more boat-shaped (sulcate – hence the specific epithet) than those of most examples of Purple Trillium.  Color variants, mostly white, creamy to butter yellow and pink occur in the wild, and may be present in the plants we’re offering for sale. Flower fragrance is not as sweet as say Sweet Beth (T. vaseyi) but also is not as fetid as Purple Trillium.
