Acer rubrum ‘Sun Valley’ – Red Maple – 7-Gallon

Selected by the US National Arboretum from a cross of two well-known varieties, ‘Red Sunset’ and ‘Autumn Flame’. ‘Sun Valley’ was selected for exceptional, long-lasting red fall color and significant levels of tolerance to potato leafhopper, an insect that causes curled and twisted tip growth. ‘Sun Valley’ is a male selection so it will not produce samaras – those winged seeds that can be ornamental as they turn red in spring and which kids find fascinating. Perhaps a drawback – on the other hand you won’t have a kazillion red maple seedlings popping up throughout your garden.
