Anemone canadensis – Canada Anemone

Crystalline white, upward-facing flowers with bright yellow centers adorn deeply dissected foliage. Canada Anemone is the showiest of the native  Anemones. However, it’s an extremely aggressive spreader in sunny moist conditions – slow it down by growing it in dry shade or naturalize it in a wild garden where it will form spectacular colonies of showy foliage and flowers. Canada Anemone has a broad distribution in northern North America and is native to our area. It does have a preference for calcareous soils though, so it’s more commonly found in the Hudson Valley than in the Catskills.
