Callirhoe involucrata – Winecups or Purple Poppy-mallow

$7.00$11.00

Also known as Buffalo Rose, a reference to the primary distribution of the plant throughout the Great Plains from Nebraska south to Texas where the buffalo roam. This is a trailing plant that needs proper siting to be most effective – think cascading over a wall or rockwork in a hot sunny location with well-drained soil. The showy hot pink/magenta flowers appear at the end of the stems over a fairly long period in Summer. The plants develop a hefty taproot and are quite drought tolerant when established. This also means they don’t transplant well so choose your placement carefully. Flowers are attractive to pollinators. Not resistant to deer (or buffalo).
