Carex albicans – Oak or Whitetinge Sedge – 1-Quart

$6.00

A widespread sedge of mesic to dry oak forests from Maine to Nebraska south to Texas and Florida. In New York, it’s most common in the southeast, including Ulster County, and around the Great Lakes. The pistillate flower scales are dark brown to black with green midribs and white margins, those margins giving rise to the alternative common name “Whitetinge Sedge.” This is a clumping sedge that also slowly spreads by underground rhizomes, like the more well-known Pennsylvania Sedge, and will slowly spread to form a loose groundcover.
