Clematis fremontii – Fremont’s Leather Flower

A non-vining species native in just a handful of counties  in Missouri, Nebraska and Kansas. We had obtained a half-dozen plants from a native nursery in Missouri, potted as stock plants from which we were obtaining seeds. Unfortunately the winter of ’23/’24 voles got into the bin in which plants were overwintering  and took out every plant. That nursery in Missouri is sold out of plants as well so it may be a few years before we’ll be able to offer the plant again.
