Clethra acuminata – Cinnamonbark Clethra

$14.00$24.00

From the southern Appalachians comes this relative of our native Summersweet, C. alnifolia. We’ve been growing it for a number of years so it appears completely cold hardy in our area, perhaps a bit marginal at higher elevations of the Catskills. Its most outstanding attribute is the striking, burnished cinnamon, tan, purple and brown exfoliating bark that develops on the trunk and lower branches of this large shrub/small tree. The white flowers are lightly fragrant.

We are completely sold out for 2024, but had excellent seed production from plants in our gardens Fall ’23 and should have plants available in a year or two. This species is rarely available anywhere in the nursery trade. While quite a few nurseries list the plant, none ever seem to have it for sale. We are in the same situation at the moment, but definitely have the species in production.
