Fothergilla ×intermedia ‘Mount Airy’- Witch-alder

$12.00$39.00

This hybrid between Mountain Fothergilla (F. major) and Coastal Fothergilla (F. gardenii) was discovered by plantsman Michael Dirr at the Mount Airy Arboretum in Cincinnati, Ohio. It’s intermediate in size between those two species. ‘Mount Airy’ is a magnificent shrub that offers superb flowers and foliage. In spring, white, honey-scented flowers occur in 2-inch long bottle-brush like inflorescences. In fall, the foliage takes on a cacophony of color over a long period of time: shades of apricot, orange, maroon, and crimson appear, often together in the same leaf. Prefers a moist, well-drained, acidic soil.
