Fragaria ×ananassa ‘Albion’ – Organic Day-neutral Strawberry – 1-Quart

$6.00

A new day-neutral variety from California that’s considered an improvement over the long popular ‘Seascape,’ in particular for the most important trait – flavor! ‘Albion’ responds well to a consistent fertilization and watering schedule. We suggest using Espoma BerryTone fertilizer and remembering to water through dry spells. The result will be large to very large, sweet fruit even during the hot summer months. ‘Albion’ was bred to be resistant to several common diseases, including verticillium wilt, phytophthora crown rot, and anthracnose, so it ‘s a great choice for the backyard organic garden.

Description

Garden strawberries originated under cultivation in Europe from crossings of the cultivated F. chiloensis forma chiloensis from South America and F. virginiana from North America. They are grown today on all continents and occasionally escape from gardens.

  • Strawberries require 6-10 hours a day of direct sunlight.
  • They will do best in a sandy loam soil and adding some aged manure and/or compost before planting is recommended.  Mulch with chopped straw, leaves or shredded wood.
  • The soil pH should be between 5.5 and 7.
  • Strawberries need well-drained conditions so raised beds or containers are a good option.
