Malus Honeycrisp™ – Apple

A 1960 cross of Keepsake (MN447 x Northern Spy) x unknown, as part of the University of Minnesota apple breeding program to develop winter hardy cultivars with high fruit quality. ‘Honeycrisp’ has an exceptionally crisp and juicy texture. Its flesh is cream colored and coarse. A consistent taste test winner, it has a good balance of sugars and acids and tends to be more acidic (tart) in cooler climates. It’s very resistant to Apple Scab, but, otherwise, not particularly disease-resistant.
