Fragaria ×ananassa ‘Earliglow’ – June-bearing Strawberry – 3-Quart

$12.00

If you are looking for the best-flavored strawberry, this is the one. ‘Earliglow’ is one of the most widely planted varieties in the Northeast, largely due to its fantastic flavor. As you can guess from its name, this is one of the earliest strawberry varieties to ripen. Its one drawback is that fruit size decreases as the season progresses. ‘Earliglow’ is a vigorous, disease-resistant variety with good runner production.

Description

Garden strawberries originated under cultivation in Europe from crossings of the cultivated F. chiloensis forma chiloensis from South America and F. virginiana from North America. They are grown today on all continents and occasionally escape from gardens.

  • Strawberries require 6-10 hours a day of direct sunlight.
  • They will do best in a sandy loam soil and adding some aged manure and/or compost before planting is recommended.  Mulch with chopped straw, leaves or shredded wood.
  • The soil pH should be between 5.5 and 7.
  • Strawberries need well-drained conditions so raised beds or containers are a good option.
