Malus ‘McIntosh’ – Heirloom Apple

$79.00$95.00

One of the world’s most well-known apples, this heirloom variety is from Canada – more specifically, the farm of John McIntosh in Ontario. Discovered in 1811, it became the most popular variety in Canada and New England throughout the 20th century. It’s no longer quite so popular, but remains a top 10 variety in the United States. The flavor is unique – generally sweet but with refreshing acidity and a hint of wine often referred to as “vinous.” ‘McIntosh’ is not particularly disease-resistant nor is it a great keeper, losing flavor and becoming soft. Try to find one from a local orchard rather than the supermarket or, better yet, grow your own!
