Fragaria × ‘Flamingo’ – June-bearing Strawberry – 1-Quart

$6.00

‘Flamingo’ is reminiscent of wild strawberries, producing very sweet fruit with strong strawberry aroma, but with larger  fruit size and greater vigor. Compared to soft fleshed wild strawberries, it is more productive and has fruit flesh which is melting and can be stored for longer periods. The fruit has a light pink color offset with darker red achenes (seeds). It was chosen by Five Aces Breeding in Virginia as an offspring of  a cross between ‘White Carolina,’ an heirloom variety of white fruited strawberry or pineberry, and a complex strawberry hybrid with F. xananassa, F. vesca, F. moschata and F. nubicola in the lineage.

Its flowering season is late, reducing the possibility of frost damage, and harvest is over a four-week period as compared to a shorter period on other spring bearing wild species.
