Heuchera americana ‘Marvelous Marble’ – Common Alumroot – 1-Quart

$6.00

The only alumroot native to our area, where it is actually not common but quite locally distributed, usually on shady, rocky outcrops, and we’ve only ever found it in the Hudson Valley, not up in the Catskills. The olive green foliage has variable patches of silver/pewter marbling or veiling, and, primarily in cooler weather, reddish veining. Small white flowers develop on panicles well above the leaves – they aren’t showy but will attract small bees and the occasional hummingbird. Demands good soil drainage. Horticultural selections have been made for more consistent marbling and veining. ’Dale’s Strain’ is from North Carolina, a seed strain selected for enhanced silvery-blue veiling. ‘Green Spice’ is from Georgia, with many generations of selection for larger, high-color-contrast foliage. Marvelous Marble™ is a seed strain of unknown provenance with the red veining extending out into the silver/pewter marbling.
