Malus ‘Whitney’ – Edible Crabapple – 7-Gallon

$79.00

Small, sweet, edible crabapples – it’s considered by some to be the best edible crab. The red, golf ball-size apples are also perfect for canning, pickling and jellies. ‘Whitney’ has a subacid flavor with a slight astringency; the flesh is juicy and yellow, containing 11.39% sugar that will ferment to 5+% alcohol in cider production. Even when the tree is young, it will bear heavy crops. Growth is upright and the blossoms are pink and white. Originated with A. R. Whitney, Franklin Grove, Illinois…described by Warder as early as 1869.
