Morella pensylvanica – Northern Bayberry

$9.00$115.00

A great native substitute for grow-anywhere invasive exotics such as a Japanese Barberry and Winged Euonymus. This is a tough shrub, using its ability to fix nitrogen to grow on the poor soils of roadsides, dry slopes, and even lightly shaded woodlands. The billowing mounds of foliage are attractive in both formal & informal situations. The fruit was once used to scent Bayberry Candles and is a valuable food for birds, especially for returning migrants in early Spring. Spreads by rhizomes to form a wide colony of plants over time.
