Ribes ‘Hinnonmaki Red’ – Gooseberry

This Finnish variety is simply one of the best! In a Kentucky State University comparison of seven varieties it was a vigorous grower with the highest yield. It was tops for disease resistance to white pine blister rust, powdery mildew and septoria leaf spot. Berries were a little smaller than other varieties including ‘Jahn’s Prairie’  but the flavor was excellent with raspberry overtones, and a crisp berry texture. You simply cannot go wrong with this gooseberry.
